Bio

Welcome to the profile page of good cop bad cop.

background

John Rowley and Richard Huw Morgan have worked as professional performance makers in Wales since 1990, as key members of Brith Gof, Pearson/Brookes and as founders of Das Wunden and good cop bad cop (gcbc). Their work has been characterised by a continuous willingness to experiment with both the form and content of performance practice. This has resulted in gcbc being acknowledged by the British Council as key exponents of contemporary British performance, through inclusion in their performance showcases in Edinburgh 2003, 2007 and Gijon, Spain 2009.

Both have also been recognised by the Arts Council of Wales for their contribution to the arts in Wales as recipients of Creative Wales Awards for their individual practice, Morgan in 2006 and Rowley in 2008. Morgan's for sound art, resulting in the release of his second vinyl field-recording album "Rhan Un", John for research into 'theatrical artifice', resulting in work selected for the visual arts pavillion at the 2010 Eisteddfod

In 2011 they began broadcasting their weekly arts radio programme, 'Pitch' on Radio Cardiff, 98.7FM and http://www.radiocardiff.org. These programmes are archived elsewhere on Culture Colony. (type 'Pitch 'in the search field above and then 'videos' for the archived programmes)

Whether we call our works ‘liminal performances’, ‘theoretical performances’, ‘performed installations’ or ‘theatre of irrevocable acts’, our concerns are always with the creation of a direct experience for audiences in ‘real-time’, collapsing the creation of the work and its presentation to the audience into a shared time and space. Where our skills lie is in our joint history of creating original works relevant to various contexts, be those thematic, audience, location, etc, within which the work is situated. This 'real-time' experience may, or may not, be re-presented via other media such as video, vinyl or broadcast radio.
