tactileBOSCH Press Release

An Exhibition of Contemporary Painting

tactileBOSCH Gallery, Cardiff, UK

16th June – 15th July 2012

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Deadline Extended...Friday 25th 2012

In the 21st century, as in the last, painting continues its dramatic and unceasing evolution – this age old medium continues to fascinate artists and remains as vibrant and relevant today as ever. Unlike the last century we can no longer clearly identify schools or trends but what we have instead is much more interesting and complex – a multiplicity of aesthetic modes, conceptual approaches and styles coexisting, sometimes on a single canvas. The new school is no school. Or all schools.

CITIZEN is the 2012 installment of tactileBOSCH Gallery’s annual painting, printing and drawing show, this year devoted exclusively to painting. The exhibition will consist of new work by both Wales / UK based and international artists and will be a testament to the continued exuberance and interrogation of the medium today.

The selection panel invites submissions from both emerging and established artists working in the medium of painting, in the broadest sense - artists who work with paint in three-dimensional and performance works are also welcome to apply. The panel will be looking to select work that embodies an innovative and imaginative approach to painting. Think outside the box as well as inside the 2D frame. E.g. Live performance and site specific work using wallspace and the fabric of the building are more than welcome – please specify any technical needs and special praramaters

tactileBOSCH: Gallery & Studio:

Situated in an atmospheric 200 year old building, formerly a Victorian laundry, tactileBOSCH is a unique artist-run gallery space in Wales’ capital city, Cardiff. Since opening its doors in June 2000 tactileBOSCH has become one of the main players in the vibrant Welsh arts scene, with a reputation for presenting new and experimental art across all media.

tactileBOSCH gives artists and audiences the opportunity to engage with art in ways not always possible within a more conventional space. The gallery space transforms to adapt to the character of each show, the building’s special architecture offering a range of presentation and viewing possibilities, from large open spaces with natural light to smaller intimate spaces.

With an emphasis on showcasing the work of emerging artists, tactileBOSCH offers an environment for innovative and exciting creative dialogues - between art and architectural space, between artists and curators & between artists and audiences.
