Rhôd is a unique open-air contemporary art event held annually in Melin Glonc, Carmarthenshire and funded by The Arts Council of Wales.

Since 2009 the owners, Roger Lougher and Mari Beynon Owen have arranged for artists to show their installation art in and around the old corn mill. This water mill, which along with all the machinery and equipment is grade two listed, has played an important role in the industrial and social history of Drefelin village. It stands on the banks of the river Bargod within eleven acres of land consisting of woodland, wild gardens and meadows.

Rhôd is now in its fourth year, each year the show has been curated by different artists who have previously been exhibitors. This year the curator is Kathryn Campbell Dodd :

“Over the previous 3 years Rhôd has hosted over 40 artists at Melin Glonc, the underlying theme of the event has been to open a dialogue between artists who work in urban and rural environments.

For 2012 I have invited 10 artists to exhibit at the event who work in various disciplines and are at different stages of their careers, they are based in a variety of locations in Wales and UK. All will respond site-specifically to the location of the mill, developing their responses and activities from their relationship to Melin Glonc and the Rhôd project.”

About Rhôd and The Rhôd Artists Group
 Rhôd is a unique open-air contemporary art event held annually in Melin Glonc, Drefelin, Drefach Felindre, Carmarthenshire SA44 5XB.

Rhôd’s aims are :
1. •       Specialise in installation art
2. •       Encourage new work in performance and time-based media art
3. •       Encourage artists to respond directly to the site – the location, history and the
             community
4. •       Give artists the opportunity to develop work over a period of time before and
             after the show
5. •       Provide an opportunity for an artist in residence

Since the first show the artists who have taken part have formed a group, the Rhôd Artists Group which is now responsible for organising Rhôd.  It also serves to continue the dialogue between artists, to develop further opportunities to show their work and to promote installation art in Wales and beyond. The group is open to all participating artists.
