'Pitch' on Radio Cardiff

'Pitch' is an hour long discussion programme on Radio Cardiff sponsored by Chapter Arts Centre and devoted to the arts scene in the capital. The show is hosted by good cop bad cop, Richard Huw Morgan and John Rowley.
Tubbs the Station Manager and a DJ on Radio Cardiff helps to get 'Pitch' on air once again with Richard Huw Morgan at the controls, guests - the artists Anthony Shapland from g39, Richard Higlett of Artists Resource Cardiff and Mermaid and Monster and Benjamin Walther half of the artist duo Awst and Walther currently installing work at the National Museum for the opening of the new galleries next week.
And, banished to a microphone in the corner of the studio is the other half of good cop bad cop John Rowley.
Topics for discussion today ranged from the final show at the artist run gallery g39 in the middle of town 'Are we not drawn onward to new era?' with events on the 2nd of July, the first exhibition in the new gallery spaces for contemporary art at the National Museum 'I cannot escape this place' which opens on the 9th of July and debate about the general state of art in the city today. As Richard Huw Morgan pointed out "Radio Cardiff is a community radio station and as such it broadcasts to communities within the general community of Cardiff. It has a Somali hour, a Bhangra hour, etc. and we thought it should have a programme dedicated to the arts community in Cardiff too".
Today's discussion centred around the need for a contemporary arts market or even an arts festival to boost the prospects of survival for artists working in the city today. As the arts are so poorly served by broadcasters these days,'Pitch' is a breath of fresh air on the airwaves and I'd say essential listening for anyone working in the creative industries or seeking to develop careers in the arts, whether in the city of Cardiff or anywhere else for that matter. The issues raised by this programme are significant to the arts community generally and 'Pitch' is a very rare opportunity for artists to speak to each other on such a potentially great scale.
If you don't live in Cardiff you don't need to feel left out either. Wherever you are in the world, if you have access to the internet, every Tuesday morning you can go to the Cardiff Radio web site between 10am and 11am and stream the broadcast live to your computer screen. You can even take part by email or text, offering your own comments and solutions to questions, even describe what the guests look like (there's a web cam in the studio - so this is radio you can see!!). You will also get a chance to 'listen again' to these broadcasts as they are recorded and will appear on the 'Pitch' platform here on Culture Colony.
