Rhod - In Venice!
25th September 2010
From Monday the 30th of May untill Saturday the 4th of June next year you might well find art and artists from Wales representing themselves in Venice alongside the official selection.
Tim Davies is the artist that has been selected for Wales in Venice 2011 and he and his team have some very exciting plans. But now, in addition to this 'official' representation, the Rural / Urban experiment that is 'Rhôd' are planning their own art intervention in the water logged town. Rhôd has taken place twice at Melin Glonc, an old grannery mill in deepest West Wales, in 2009 and 2010. Artists from the cities were brought in to exhibit alongside artists local to the mill. This has resulted in two very dynamic events creating a dialogue between artists of different disciplines and from very different environments. This meeting of art and artists is culturally essential for a country such as Wales.
Now, Rhôd have secured an upstairs room in a restaurant in Venice during the opening week of the Venice Biennale where they will curate a show. The exhibition will be titled - Rhodio [Rove/Rodare] - All of the artists who have shown at Rhôd have been invited to submit proposals for the group show in this space.
This venue is very near Palazzo Zenobio which is usually the host of at least 6 or 7 national pavilions and is thus one of the main venues outside of the Giardini.
The room that will receive a Rhôd treatment.
Culture Colony is already playing a role in the 'official' Wales in Venice project and now we hope we can also bring you Rhôd in Venice as well.
