Mostyn - COUNTING DOWN 50
2nd April 2010
With just 50 DAYS to go until reopening and large parts of the building already handed over, it's time to talk about Oriel Mostyn's reopening exhibitions. One thing's certain: it's impossible to say everything in one exhibition or even group of exhibitions - go to a gallery regularly over a period of a couple of years if you want to understand what it's about. So, no megaexpectation-raising blockbuster?

Craig Wood and Chris Taylor, Witness 2010
No. But, "Beware.. We're the artists. We've got the mirrors, we've got the plans." Craig Wood’s mischievously ironic spin on art reflecting society and even being prophetic of its future gives us the title for a show 'WE HAVE THE MIRRORS, WE HAVE THE PLANS' with 25 artists, all with their different preoccupations and, with one eye on the future, trying in their different ways to make sense of what it means to be alive.

This, the largest of Mostyn's reopening shows, indicates Mostyn's commitment to being a platform for the best art being produced in Wales, while 'The Junkyard Museum of Awkward Things' by The Junkman from Afrika, and 'Flooded McDonald’s' by Superflex, embody the Gallery's equal commitment to bringing to Wales some of the best art being made overseas.
