A New Logo for the New Look

Oriel Mostyn Gallery's new logo Designed by View Creative. It's first appearance is on the gallery web site, where they have a holding page while the site is completely redesigned. Have a look on www.mostyn.org

These latest photos from the gallery show construction of the new Mostyn in its final phase. Doors, floors, signs, angles, shadows.... and lots more.

The facade work is now complete and the cast iron and glass canopy is being rebuilt.

The new components in the canopy have been fabricated and are being installed by steel fabricators David Williams (Llandudno) Ltd, who are all of 250 yards away from the Mostyn in Builder Street.

This photograph is a reminder of how the sign over the main entrance looked before.

And this is how it looks now, more fitting for a building with so much history and heritage.

New sliding glass doors have been installed. You can now see right through from the front door to the back wall of Oriel 1 gallery.

Skimming, painting, floor-laying, door-fixing... there's still lots to do but work at the Mostyn is entering its final phase.

Things might be going well but there's a lot of work to do.

The floors will have a 'negative shadow gap': instead of the usual arrangement in galleries whereby the wall stops about a centimetre short of the floor ( giving a 'shadow gap' to allow repainting of the walls without messing up the floor), at Mostyn the floor will stop just short of the wall.

Sculptor and installation artist Lois Williams visited the site the other day. As Consultant Artist on the project she has been a full member of the Design Team, the first time this has happened in Wales. Ellis Williams Architects were completely open to it and she has made a major contribution to the thinking on the design.
