Wrapped Up and Ready to Go!

Wrapped Up and Ready to Go!

15th January 2010

Huge shipping containers from California arrived at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park at the beginning of December. And this was just the beginning. There is now another cargo ship on the high seas, carrying an iron sculpture that has been fabricated in China, and two articulated lorries are on the road full of Nash sculptures from his gallery in Germany, all cargo destined for the Sculpture Park in Yorkshire.

And there's a similar story in Blaenau Ffestiniog. Sculptures representing four decades of ideas and work have been wrapped and labeled at David Nash's workshops and at his studio Capel Rhiw.

And then at Huges Spesialised Transport yard the sculptures are transferred from one lorry to an even bigger low loader. A few of these will have left Hughes' yard this week - destination Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Photographs by Pete Telfer.

The Iron Dome installed this week at Shanghai Sculpture Park

This sculpture, The Iron Dome, consists of 49 cast iron pieces. It is 6M in diameter and the tallest pieces are 2.8M high. There were two versions of this sculpture made in China from polystyrene blocks that were carved by David Nash using hot wire. One version, seen here, has been installed this week at the Shanghai Sculpture Park and the other is currently in transit on its way to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park to be installed there ready for David Nash's major exhibition that begins in May.
