Ceri Sherlock moves to Hong Kong

12th January 2010

Ceri Sherlock, former Commissioning Executive for Arts programmes at BBC Wales, takes up a new position this week as Professor and Head of Directing at the Hong Kong Academy of the Performing Arts.Ceri had been at BBC Wales since 2006 and was previously Commissioning Editor, Music for S4C. His recent Comissioning and Executive Producer credits include the international co-productions Toscanini in his own words, Jordi Savall, Haydn's The Seven Last Words, The Full Monteverdi as well as directing the premiere of Sir John Tavener's The Veil of the Temple in London and New York.

Ceri Sherlock began his diverse career in the arts in the early Eighties, directing and working on operatic productions in venues in Ireland, France, and Germany, amongst many others. He returned to Wales to join Theatr Cymru as Associate Director and the Welsh National Opera as a staff producer, before an award-winning spell as Artistic Director of the Actors Touring Company in London. In 1993 he moved into film, writing and directing Dafydd which he followed with the award winning feature films Branwen and Cameleon.

When he first joined the commissioning team at BBC Wales the first thing he did wasn't to commission programmes. He discovered that BBC Wales had a collection of contemporary paintings languishing in storage and he rescued them from this fate and hung them on the walls where they could be seen.

Culture Colony - Y Wladfa Newydd wishes Ceri all the best in Hong Kong and we're looking forward to receiving the post cards.
