Countdown - 150 days to go for Oriel Mostyn
30th December 2009
150 days to go for Oriel Mostyn and its re-opening on the 22nd of May.

This is how the Mostyn's spire looks when it catches the sun.

Oriel Mostyn don't have all the funding they need yet - so you can still support the Mostyn expansion if you 'Go for Gold!', i.e. sponsor a gold tile on the spire and/or the rear elevation. There are a total of 242 (128 on the spire, 114 on the rear elevation) and they are £100 each to sponsor. Sponsors names, or dedications, will be laser-printed onto a tile that will be displayed in the public area of the Gallery when it re-opens.

Oriel 3 taking shape as the walls are lined. It has a very high (9 meters) ceiling with a 'saw tooth' configuration to bring in natural light.

Oriel 3 has a floor space of 105 square meters (1050 square feet), so it is fractionally bigger than either of the original galleries which are both 100 square meters. The orientation of the building meant the 'saw tooth' couldn't be directly north-facing, so the angles of the individual pitches vary to minimise the amount of direct sunlight coming into the gallery.
