Culture Colony apology and cloud base news

24th July 2012

Dear Culture Colony members, apologies to those of you who tried to access the network yesterday only to receive a notice informing you of 'technical issues'.

All is well at the Colony and normal service has resumed today for everyone.

The web site went off line yesterday as we transferred our hosting to a cloud based system. Some members browsers may have experienced only a couple of hours disruption, while others were out all day. We were aware that the transfer was imminent, but were taken a bit by surprise when it did happen. So, we were unable to get a warning out there to the membership in time and we are sorry if this caused any inconvenience.

By using cloud computing technology, Culture Colony is now better placed to take advantage of new developments and grow with the evolution in mobile devices, ensuring that the Culture Colony facility continues to be of practical use to its membership in the future.

As the use of mobile devices to access content grows, cloud computing offers solutions to increase capacity and the streaming of data to provide users with a better quality service. As we develop Culture Colony for use on mobile devices, the hosting of the network (using this new technology) becomes more and more important - to ensure that the future experience of people accessing data and content from Culture Colony enhances their appreciation of art and events while visiting galleries or festivals. This is a new area of cultural experience that we hope our members will explore, taking advantage of opportunities to combine on-line experience with real world events. Culture Colony is providing a unique facility for the creative sector and we hope that it will be used, and have its limits pushed by the membership in our cultural evolution.
