Arts Council of Wales reopens its Capital Funding Programme

PRESS RELEASE

Arts Council of Wales reopens its Capital Funding Programme

Arts Council of Wales announces, today, the reopening of its Capital Programme enabling the nation’s key arts organisations to benefit from Capital Lottery funding once again.

Since 1997, the Council has distributed over £114,248,872 of Lottery funding to a total of 1,599 projects throughout Wales.

In doing so, the Arts Council’s Lottery investments have transformed the built landscape of the arts in Wales: landmark buildings such as the Wales Millennium Centre and Newport’s Riverfront have created important new opportunities for people to enjoy the arts; investment in Galeri Caernarfon, Theatr Mwldan and Aberystwyth Arts Centre have provided the impetus for wider re-generation and economic development; Ruthin Craft Centre and Oriel Mostyn have raised the profile of visual arts and crafts internationally; while Valleys Kids and Chapter have developed vibrant, well-used cultural facilities of national significance that are firmly embedded in their localities.

The new strategy for the Lottery Capital Programme places “a greater priority on the refurbishment of existing facilities rather than new build schemes”. Other priorities in the strategy are capital investments designed to increase income and reduce costs; involvement in wider regeneration programmes; and public art projects, with all building-based projects expected to incorporate a public art strategy.

Dr. Kath Davies, Director Investment and Funding Services said: “Our ambition for our programme is to continue to bring significant benefits to the arts in Wales through capital investment.  At the heart of our new approach will be to make sure that the arts in Wales can fulfil their full potential.  The funds available are more modest than in the early days of the Lottery, so we’ll need to be selective about what we’re able to support.  However, there’s still plenty that we can do to help Wales’s key arts organisations to build on their existing achievements and to keep alive that all important Wales-wide network of arts facilities.“

A nominal allocation of between £15-20m will be available between now and April 2017.

The General Guide to Arts Council of Wales Capital Programme and application forms will be available online from Wednesday 1 August 2012.

Ailagor Rhaglen Ariannu Cyfalaf Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru

5 Gorffennaf 2012

Cyhoeddodd Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru heddiw yr ailagorir ei Raglen Gyfalaf a fydd yn galluogi prif sefydliadau celfyddydol y genedl i elwa o arian Cyfalaf y Loteri unwaith yn rhagor.

Ers 1997, dosbarthodd y Cyngor dros £114,248,872 o gyllid Loteri i gyfanswm o 1,599 o brosiectau ar draws Cymru gyfan.

O ganlyniad, trawsnewidiwyd tirwedd adeiladol y celfyddydau yng Nghymru: crëwyd adeiladau o bwys megis Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru a Glan yr Afon, Casnewydd, gan greu cyfleoedd pwysig newydd i bobl fwynhau’r celfyddydau; sbardunwyd adfywio a datblygiad economaidd ehangach wrth i ni fuddsoddi yng Ngaleri, Caernarfon, Theatr Mwldan a Chanolfan y Celfyddydau,  Aberystwyth; cododd Canolfan Grefft Rhuthun a Mostyn broffil rhyngwladol y celfyddydau gweledol a chrefftau a datblygodd Plant y Cymoedd a Chapter gyfleusterau diwylliannol bywiog o arwyddocâd cenedlaethol a ddefnyddir yn helaeth ac sy’n rhan annatod o’u cymunedau.

Rhydd y strategaeth newydd ar gyfer Rhaglen Gyfalaf y Loteri “flaenoriaeth fwy ar adnewyddu cyfleusterau cyfredol yn hytrach nag adeiladu o’r newydd”. Ymhlith blaenoriaethau eraill y strategaeth mae buddsoddiadau cyfalaf gyda’r nod o ddatblygu incwm a lleihau costau; bod yn rhan o raglenni adfywio ehangach; a phrosiectau celf gyhoeddus, a disgwylir i bob prosiect wedi’u lleoli mewn adeilad ymgorffori strategaeth gelf gyhoeddus.

Meddai Dr. Kath Davies, Cyfarwyddwr Gwasanaethau Buddsoddi ac Ariannu: “Ein uchelgais yw parhau i ddod â budd sylweddol i’r celfyddydau yng Nghymru drwy fuddsoddiad cyfalaf y rhaglen. Yn ganolog i’n gweithredu fydd sicrhau y gall y celfyddydau yng Nghymru gyrraedd eu gwir botensial. Mae’r cyllidebau sydd ar gael yn llai na’r hyn a gaed yn nyddiau cynnar y Loteri, felly bydd rhaid bod yn fwy dethol parthed yr hyn y gallwn ei gefnogi. Eto, mae nifer fawr o bethau y gallwn wneud i gynhorthwy prif sefydliadau celfyddydol Cymru i adeiladu ar eu llwyddiannau presennol a chadw’r rhwydwaith hollbwysig o gyfleusterau celfyddydol sy’n cwmpasu Cymru gyfan yn fyw ac yn iach. “

Clustnodwyd swm rhwng £15-20m a fydd ar gael hyd at Ebrill 2017.

Bydd Canllawiau Cyffredinol Rhaglen Gyfalaf Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru a’r ffurflenni cais ar gael ar-lein o ddydd Mercher 1 Awst 2012.
