Prepare for Judge Dredd to land on our shores for the Judgement in Cardiff exhibition, featuring original comic book art from the past 30 years

Judge Dredd is a phenomenon of British popular culture. Arguably the most popular British character of the 20th century he debuted in 1977 in the pages of 2000AD, a weekly-published comic book anthology. Now it's the turn of Third Floor Gallery on Bute Street to host Dredd's particular set of skills this August. It s almost 40 years on from his first appearance and there have been two full length theatrical movies, numerous games, statues, action figures, clothing, bedding, kitchenware and all that is before you even begin to mention the millions of comics, novels and collected works translated into many languages.

Judge Joseph Dredd is still going strong to this day with new episodes published weekly and monthly in 2000AD and the Judge Dredd Megazine. Judgement in Cardiff brings together some of the finest artists ever to draw Dredd as well as more recently published and up and coming artists. From private commissions by the character s co-creator - Spanish artist Carlos Ezquerra, through incredibly inked pages by legends such as Mick McMahon and David Roach, to fully painted covers and digitally painted covers respectively by Glenn Fabry and Ryan Brown the exhibition features the richness of stylistic approaches to the character and the world he inhabits. The pages on display at Judgement in Cardiff have been lent to Caped in Case for the purpose of this exhibition either by the artists themselves or from private collections.

Judgement in Cardiff is the first exhibition of this type in the capital of Wales, Cardiff and will be the only time to see these collected works in the same space. The full list of exhibited artists is as follows: Ryan Brown, Mike Collins, Carlos Ezquerra, Glenn Fabry, Patrick Goddard, John Higgins, Jock, Garry Leach, Brendan McCarthy, Mick McMahon, Colin MacNeil, Grant Richards, Arthur Ranson, David Roach, Cliff Robinson, Will Simpson, Ron Smith, Dave Taylor, Dylan Teague and Trust.

Dave Taylor will also be hosting a book signing at The Comic Guru store on Saturday 8 August from 1pm 4pm.

The opening night preview of Judgment in Cardiff starts at 7pm on Saturday 1 August; the exhibition runs until 16 August 2015 at Third Floor Gallery on Bute Street
