The new Wales International Young Artist Award was set up by British Council, Wales to identify and nurture new creative talent, offering selected artists national and international exposure.

Young artists submitted applications from a range of creative backgrounds including painting, sculpture, as well as photography, graphic design, printmaking, drawing and film. Chosen by the three judges, Marc Rees, Hannah Firth and Karen MacKinnon the five finalists for British Council Wales s first annual Wales International Young Artist Award have been confirmed. They are:

  • Eugene Finnegan Photography
  • Eluned Glyn - Ceramics
  • Andrew Morris - Photography
  • Richard Pask Film
  • Georgia Skye Sculpture
The winner, who receives a cash prize of500,will be announced in an award ceremony held on 13 November. They will get the opportunity for their work to have an international platform through the British Council s network of offices in six continents and over 100 countries. The nature of the profiling and exhibition of the winner s art will depend on the category of the piece.
