Foghorn

A replica of a foghorn has been recreated as part of the Forging Links project which aims to bring Sandwell's heritage to new audiences.

The foghorn was fabricated and reconstructed from just the one single photo, by local blacksmith Ian Moran, and his colleague Robin Ling in honour of the Chance Brothers’ manufacturing prowess and to share this rich, and mostly unknown history of Sandwell. Chance Brothers, was a highly reputable glass manufacturers based in Smethwick who also established a major lighthouse engineering company in the 19th Century.

This interactive artwork naturally amplifies people’s voices to make them sound enormous.
